Dr. Shagufta Khanam is a visual artist, and freelances at Lalit Kala Akademi, Lucknow. As a child, her most cherished toys were paints, palettes and brushes. In pursuit of her passion for painting, she did a Masters of Fine Arts and a PhD (Painting), from Aligarh Muslim University.Shagufta works with oil, water and mixed media. Her paintings are vivid depictions of the Indian woman, portraying her sufferings and successes, wins and woes, tears and cheers, pains and gains. Through her masterpieces, Shagufta presents the lived realities of Indian women. She has done numerous exhibitions at several places across the country including in Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Odisha, West Bengal and Punjab.She displayed her prized art pieces in the solo exhibition “Rhythm” at Lalit Kala Akademi, Lucknow. The theme of Shagufta’s canvases is rhythm, which she interprets as the fulcrum of existence of various creations in this universe, be it the throbbing heart, or the intricacies of human connections and relationships. In tying the exhibition’s theme with her specific interest in the lives of Indian women, her paintings portrayed the rhythm of balance a woman establishes while playing different roles and fulfilling a myriad of responsibilities. Shagufta was honored with the "Ratan-e-Hind" award in abstract category at All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society, New Delhi, Prafulla Dahanukar City Award & 30th Pragati Chitra International Golden Award presented by Konaseema Chitrakala Parishad, Amalapuram, Raja Ravi Verma award for her contribution to the world of arts....porta.
