Description:
Created in 1855, this artwork uses watercolor and gouache over graphite on wove paper. It depicts a lively scene on a Venetian canal where a gondola and a smaller fishing boat are moored near the steps of an ornate Gothic portal. Several monks in white and black habits are negotiating or purchasing fish from vendors in the boats.
