Description:
This is a highly stylized and symbolic contemporary painting, depicting a surrealistic meeting between two pivotal figures in modern Chinese history: Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. Mao stands tall and imposing in a white shirt and dark trousers, looking forward with a serious, almost ethereal, expression. Deng is seated, in a blue traditional Chinese gown, resting on a rock with a contemplative look, his gaze directed at the viewer. They are set in a stylized landscape that is part natural, with trees and rocks, and part abstract, with a dreamlike, colorful sky and a distant, almost geometric landscape of fields and a small house.
