"Airabat" by Bhaskar Lahiri is a richly ornamental and symbolically charged portrayal of the mythical elephant, Airavat — the divine mount of Indra in Hindu mythology. The elephant is adorned with intricate patterns, celestial symbols, and vibrant geometric and floral designs that reflect the influence of Indian folk art traditions. A dominant feature is the central textile panel on the elephant’s body, which holds two stylized fish arranged in a yin-yang-like formation — a symbol of balance, duality, and cosmic harmony. The use of gold outlines and deep red background gives the composition a regal and timeless aura, combining mythological narrative with modern decorative aesthetics.
