Description:
This tempera on panel painting depicts the biblical scene of the Crucifixion of Christ. The composition is characteristic of the Sienese style, featuring a rich gold-leaf background that emphasizes the divine nature of the event. Christ is depicted on the cross, and at the foot of the cross sit two mourning figures: the Virgin Mary in a blue robe on the left, and Saint John the Evangelist in a pinkish-red robe on the right.
