Description:
This intense Baroque masterpiece documents the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1631. The scene shows a panoramic view of the streets of Naples, filled with a frantic crowd of thousands seeking divine protection. In the center, a religious procession carries the relics of Saint Januarius (San Gennaro), the city's patron saint, toward the volcano to intercede.
