Description:

The painting depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. Mary is shown seated in a mandorla of light, surrounded by cherubic figures. Her hands are clasped in prayer, and she wears a dark green mantle over a red gown and a white veil. Flanking her are two male saints, likely Saint Minias on the left, holding a staff or spear, and Saint Julian on the right, also holding a staff. Both saints are dressed in elaborate robes and have halos. Two angels with colorful wings attend to Mary on either side. Below, the empty tomb of the Virgin is visible, filled with flowers and with two kneeling figures, possibly apostles or donors, looking upwards in awe. The background is a gold leaf, typical of the period, enhancing the celestial atmosphere of the scene.
