The painting depicts a dramatic scene involving Samson and Delilah. Delilah, a woman with fair skin and a golden head covering, is shown holding a pair of shears, having just cut Samson's hair. Samson, a muscular man with darker skin, rests his head in Delilah's lap, seemingly weakened and asleep. Delilah looks over her shoulder with a somewhat triumphant expression. Behind them, partially obscured by a large column, are three Philistine soldiers. One soldier in armor points a finger to his lips, signaling for silence. Another soldier behind him holds a sword. Their expressions suggest a sense of conspiracy and impending capture. The overall lighting is characteristic of Baroque painting, with strong contrasts between light and shadow, highlighting the central figures and creating a sense of drama.
