This painting depicts the final communion of Saint Mary of Egypt. The saint, an elderly woman with a gaunt appearance, kneels to receive the Eucharist from Saint Zosimus, an aged monk with a long white beard, who holds a golden chalice and a host. Saint Mary of Egypt is partially draped in a light-colored cloth, and her hands are clasped in prayer. Attending the scene are several angels. One angel, kneeling in the foreground, holds a lit candle. Two other cherubic angels hover above, looking down with reverence. The setting is a sparse landscape with rolling hills and a few trees under a cloudy sky, suggesting a remote and holy location. The overall atmosphere is solemn and sacred, capturing the final act of devotion before death. The lighting is soft and ethereal, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the moment.
