Description:

This richly detailed Renaissance painting features the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. Mary is depicted with a serene expression, wearing an elaborate gold-patterned blue and red mantle over a lighter garment, and a sheer white veil adorned with jewels. She has a golden halo encircling her head. The infant Jesus, also with a halo, sits on a patterned cushion in Mary's lap, holding a small flower or fruit in his hands and looking towards the viewer. The figures are framed by a decorative archway or ledge, behind which a detailed landscape unfolds. The landscape includes stylized trees, a winding path, and a distant body of water or hazy sky. Above the figures, hanging from the archway, are various fruits and vegetables, including cucumbers and apples, rendered with meticulous detail. A fly is depicted on the ledge near the bottom.
