This is a dynamic and atmospheric landscape study of the Cader Idris mountain range in Snowdonia, Wales, created circa 1850 or 1853. Cox used expressive, loose brushwork to capture the interplay of clouds, mist, and light over the rugged peaks, particularly in his signature "wet-on-wet" watercolor technique. The original piece is noted for its large scale for a watercolor and is held by the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
