This fresco, created circa 1520-1522, is part of a larger series depicting the classical myth of Cephalus and Procris, originally commissioned for the Casa Rabia or the artist's country house, La Pelucca, near Monza. The painting shows the young hunter Cephalus kneeling beside a tree in a lush landscape. He appears to be burying or retrieving a small object (the "jewels" or "token") from the ground using a small rake-like tool, possibly a reference to a detail within the larger mythological narrative.
