This tempera on panel painting depicts the traditional biblical scene of the Crucifixion of Christ. The artwork is characterized by a flat, gilded background, typical of the Byzantine style that was prevalent in Venice during this period. Christ hangs on the cross, above which the letters IRRI (an old Latin form of INRI, meaning "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews") are visible on a plaque.
