This high-energy oil on canvas depicts a famous scene from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The scene illustrates the violent chaos that erupted at the wedding of Pirithous, King of the Lapiths, after the centaurs became intoxicated and attempted to abduct the bride and other women.
