A poignant and historic depiction of the Deposition of Christ. This panel, part of Guido of Siena monumental Maestà, shows Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus carefully lowering the body of Jesus from the cross. The Virgin Mary is seen on the left, tenderly supporting her son's arm, her face etched with profound maternal grief.
