This striking drawing by E. Boyd is a study for a decorative wall hanging, depicting Saint Barbara. The saint is shown with her traditional attributes: the tower (her imprisonment) and the chalice with a cross (her final communion/martyrdom). The work is executed in watercolor, colored pencil, and graphite on paper around 1936. It is a valuable piece documenting American decorative arts, part of a larger collection from the National Gallery of Art.
