Description:
A quintessential example of the Late Baroque and early Rococo styles, this oil painting by the Venetian master Francesco Solimena illustrates the classical myth of Venus visiting the forge of her husband, Vulcan. Venus is depicted with an ethereal, idealized beauty, seated upon a cloud and draped in soft blue and green fabrics, while a small cupid offers her a golden helmet.
