This powerful scene depicts Gonsalvo of Córdoba, the legendary Spanish general, following his victory at the Battle of Cerignola in 1503. Mounted on a majestic white horse and clad in golden armor, Gonsalvo gazes down with solemn respect at the body of his fallen enemy, the French commander Louis d'Armagnac, Duke of Nemours.
