This oil on canvas painting, created around 1717-1718, is an allegory of the season of Summer and depicts Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility. The goddess is seated on clouds, adorned with a wreath of flowers and golden stalks of wheat in her hair, and wearing flowing white and shell-pink drapery. She holds a sickle, an emblem of the harvest, in one hand, while a lion, symbolizing the hot summer months, rests nearby.
