Description:
This tempera on panel painting depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child behind a low stone parapet. The figures are rendered with a stark, sculptural quality and strong outlines, typical of the Paduan school style where Zoppo trained under Francesco Squarcione. The background is a solid, deep blue that makes the figures stand out dramatically.
