Description:

This painting depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. In the upper register, Mary stands within a golden almond-shaped aureola, her hands clasped in prayer as she ascends. She is clad in a dark blue mantle over a red robe. Surrounding her are numerous angels; some play musical instruments such as lutes and a harp, while others gaze upwards in adoration. Cherubic heads with wings fill the space around the aureola, creating a celestial atmosphere. Below, in the earthly realm, a group of apostles and other figures are gathered, looking up in awe at the miraculous event. They display a range of emotions, from wonder and reverence to astonishment. The figures are dressed in various colored robes, including red, blue, green, and orange. Some have their hands raised in supplication or gesturing in amazement. The landscape behind them features rolling hills, trees, and a pale sky with wispy clouds, typical of Umbrian settings.
