Description:

This Renaissance painting depicts the Virgin Mary seated and tenderly holding the Christ Child. Mary is shown with a serene expression, wearing a dark blue mantle over a red garment and a white head covering. The infant Jesus, held securely in her arms, looks towards Saint John the Baptist, who stands to the left. Saint John is depicted with long brown hair and a beard, wearing a simple animal skin garment and pointing towards Christ. To the right, a female saint, possibly Catherine of Alexandria given the crown she wears, looks on with a gentle expression. She is dressed in a dark garment with gold trim.
