Description:

This panel painting depicts Saint Anthony Abbot in a desolate, hilly landscape, identifiable by his long white beard, staff, and the pig at his feet (partially visible). He is shown standing on a path that winds through the barren terrain. To his left, a heap of gold coins is prominently displayed, representing one of the temptations he faced during his solitary life in the desert. Saint Anthony appears to be looking away from the gold, resisting the lure of worldly wealth. The landscape is rendered in a stylized manner, typical of Sienese painting of the period, with rolling hills, sparse vegetation including bare trees, and a distant view of a pinkish building with a church tower and a more rugged, mountainous backdrop with a body of water and a sailing ship.
