Description:

This iconic Mannerist painting features the Virgin Mary seated on a high pedestal, elegantly draped in flowing garments of pale gold and deep blue. Her neck is elongated, a characteristic stylistic feature of the Mannerist period, emphasizing her grace and refinement. The Christ Child reclines languidly on her lap, his pose seemingly precarious and his body unusually elongated as well. In the background, a diminutive figure of Saint Jerome is visible, reading from a scroll near a classical column.
