Description:

This dramatic painting depicts a pivotal moment from the classical myth of Perseus and Andromeda. Andromeda, a fair-skinned, nude female figure, is chained to a dark, rocky outcrop by the sea. Her expression suggests distress and vulnerability as she looks towards the approaching danger. A light cloth is draped loosely around her lower body. From the upper right, Perseus descends dramatically through the air. He is depicted as a muscular, light-skinned male figure, wearing a reddish-orange tunic, a flowing red cape, and winged sandals. He wields a sword in his right hand and a reflective shield in his left, which he uses to avoid the gaze of the monstrous sea creature, likely Medusa, whose power could turn him to stone.
