Description:

This painting, known as the Saint Denis Altarpiece or Martyrdom of Saint Denis by Henri Bellechose, depicts a scene of the crucifixion with Jesus on the cross. To the left, a figure looks out of a window in a building, while another figure kneels in blue. At the foot of the cross, a figure draped in a blue and gold cloak looks up at Christ. To the right, figures in ornate robes and hats are gathered. Above, a figure with a beard looks down from the heavens. The overall style is richly detailed and colorful, typical of early Renaissance art.
