Description:

This moving painting depicts the Entombment of Christ, a pivotal scene from the Passion narrative. The pale, lifeless body of Jesus is the central focus, tenderly supported by several figures. A man in a vibrant red cloak and dark green garment is seen lifting Christ's upper body, his face etched with sorrow. Another figure, possibly Joseph of Arimathea, with a long white beard and wearing a simple gray robe, supports Christ's head and shoulders, his gaze filled with grief. Mary Magdalene, kneeling in a rich golden-yellow robe, gently holds Christ's hand, her expression a mixture of anguish and reverence. Behind her, a younger figure, possibly Saint John the Evangelist, looks on with deep sorrow. The Virgin Mary is depicted in the upper left, her hands clasped in prayer, her face contorted with grief as she looks down at her son's body. An angel with downcast eyes is also present, holding Christ's side.
