Description:

This painting by Vincenzo Campi, titled "Fishmongers," depicts a lively and detailed market scene centered around the sale of fish. In the foreground, several figures interact. On the left, a woman, possibly a fishmonger, is seated and smiles broadly while holding a crying infant. An older man behind her also appears to be part of the scene, perhaps a customer or fellow vendor. On the right, another woman is actively engaged in pouring fish from a bucket into a larger basin, looking upwards. The tabletop in the center is laden with a variety of fresh fish, including large sturgeon and smaller species, along with other seafood. Overhead, fish are hanging, and in the lower right, a dog and more sea creatures are visible. The painting is rich in detail, capturing the bustling atmosphere and the abundance of the fish market.
