Description:

This Renaissance painting features the Virgin Mary seated on an ornate throne, holding the Christ Child on her lap. Mary is depicted with a serene expression, wearing a dark blue mantle over a pinkish-red garment. The infant Jesus reaches out towards a plate of oranges held by a bishop saint standing to the left. This saint is depicted as an older man with a white beard, wearing a purple and gold cope and a white mitre, and holding a crozier. On the right stands another bishop saint, dressed in a rich gold cope over a pink undergarment, also wearing a mitre and holding a crozier and a book. Both saints flank the central figures of Mary and the Child, creating a symmetrical and balanced composition.
