Description:

This Renaissance painting, attributed to the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio, depicts the biblical story of Tobias and the Archangel Raphael from the Book of Tobit. The youthful Tobias is shown being guided by the angel on a divine journey, accompanied by a small dog and holding a fish—symbolic of healing and divine intervention. The angel, often interpreted as Raphael, wears a sumptuous robe with vibrant wings, a halo, and a composed, benevolent expression. The elegance of the figures, the rich coloration, and the refined attention to fabric and form reflect the influence of Verrocchio and the early Florentine Renaissance. It is believed that Leonardo da Vinci may have painted parts of the work, particularly the angel or the fish.
