Description:

This elaborate painting depicts the celebrated castrato singer Carlo Broschi, known as Farinelli, seated in a lavish setting surrounded by allegorical figures. Farinelli is shown as a distinguished gentleman in a light-colored, ornate coat, pink breeches, and white stockings, adorned with a garland of flowers. To his right stands a semi-nude female figure draped in a teal fabric, holding a scroll or sheet of music, possibly representing Fame or Music. Several cherubs are also present: one crowns Farinelli with a laurel wreath, another holds a trumpet, and others are playfully arranged around him, some with musical instruments. In the background, there are classical architectural elements, including columns and a relief depicting more allegorical figures. The overall composition is theatrical and celebratory, befitting the fame of the depicted singer.
