Description:

Matthias Grünewald's "Crucifixion with Saints" presents a powerful and emotionally intense depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Christ hangs on the central cross, his body showing signs of suffering. To his right and left are the two thieves, also crucified. At the foot of the cross, a group of mourners is depicted, including the Virgin Mary, supported by Saint John the Evangelist, and Mary Magdalene, kneeling in anguish. Other figures, possibly donors or additional saints, are also present, witnessing the event. The sky is dramatic and foreboding, reflecting the gravity of the scene. Grünewald's expressive use of color, distorted figures, and detailed rendering of suffering create a deeply moving and spiritual work. The presence of the "INRI" inscription is visible above Christ's head.
