Description:

This altarpiece depicts the Virgin Mary enthroned and holding the Christ Child. Mary is seated on an ornate golden throne, wearing a dark blue robe and a green mantle over a red undergarment. The infant Christ stands on her lap, looking towards the right side of the composition. Flanking the throne are four saints. On the left, two male saints are shown: one in a green and red cloak holding a staff with an image, and another behind him wearing a bishop's mitre and a green cloak. On the right, another bishop saint is depicted behind a younger saint who is reading from a large open book. The setting is an architectural niche with dark green pillars and arches, opening to a distant, hazy landscape. The overall style is characterized by a sense of serenity, balanced composition, and rich colors typical of Perugino's work during the Renaissance.
