Description:

This large and complex altarpiece is divided into two distinct registers. The upper register depicts the Coronation of the Virgin Mary in a celestial realm. Christ, on the left, places a crown upon Mary's head as God the Father, on the right, blesses the scene with a gesture. The Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, descends from above. They are surrounded by swirling clouds and several cherubic figures. The lower register focuses on Saint Dominic, the central figure, dressed in his black and white Dominican habit and holding a book and lilies, symbols associated with him. He stands between various saints. To his right is a bishop saint wearing a mitre and holding a crozier, likely Saint Faustinus. Behind him is a figure holding a palm branch, possibly Saint Paul.
