Description:

This fresco by Fra Angelico depicts the biblical scene known as the Bargain of Judas. Set within a simple, architectural space with Gothic-style windows, the fresco shows Judas Iscariot receiving payment for his betrayal of Jesus Christ. Judas, dressed in a pale pink robe with a green undergarment, reaches out to receive a bag of coins from two figures who appear to be members of the Jewish Sanhedrin or temple authorities. These figures are depicted with long beards and wear traditional garments, one in shades of pink and green, and the other in red and green. Several other figures stand witness to the transaction, their expressions ranging from concern to perhaps avarice. The overall color palette is soft and muted, characteristic of Fra Angelico's style, and the figures possess a certain solemnity and grace. The architectural framing enhances the sense of a pivotal, enclosed moment.
