Description:

This iconic Renaissance painting depicts the resurrected Christ emerging triumphantly from his tomb. Christ stands centrally, his right foot resting on the edge of the sarcophagus, his left leg still within. He holds a white banner with a red cross, a symbol of his victory over death. His gaze is direct and powerful, and a faint halo encircles his head. He wears a rose-colored cloak draped over his shoulder, revealing his chest where a wound is visible. Below the risen Christ, four soldiers who had been guarding the tomb are depicted in various states of sleep and bewilderment. One soldier in a red cap and green garment sits slumped over, seemingly in deep slumber. Another, in brown armor and green stockings, lies horizontally, also asleep. A third soldier, wearing a blue hat and holding a red shield inscribed with "S.", leans back in a state of unconsciousness. The fourth soldier, partially obscured, wears a green and blue patterned head covering and appears to be falling backward.
