Description:

This painting, attributed to Orazio Gentileschi, depicts the biblical story of Susanna and the Elders. Susanna, a fair-skinned woman with reddish hair, is shown in a state of distress and alarm as two older men leer at her. One elder, on the left, with gray hair and beard, places his hand on her waist while gazing intently at her. The other elder, bald with a gray beard, looks at her from the right, his finger to his lips as if to suggest secrecy or perhaps a threat. Susanna looks upwards with an expression of shock and tries to push them away. The scene is set outdoors, suggested by the cloudy sky and the presence of a tree trunk. The dramatic expressions and close proximity of the figures create a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere, highlighting Susanna's vulnerability and the elders' predatory intentions.
