Description:

This iconic painting depicts the biblical scene of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Christ stands centrally in the shallow waters of the Jordan River, his hands clasped in prayer, a serene expression on his face. John the Baptist, dressed in a simple brown garment, stands to Christ's right, pouring water over his head with his right hand, while his left hand rests on Christ's shoulder. Above Christ, a dove, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, descends with outstretched wings. The presence of God is subtly indicated by the light and the suggestion of a golden aura emanating from the sky.
