Description:

This circular painting, known as a tondo, depicts the Nativity scene with the Virgin Mary kneeling in adoration before the infant Christ Child, who lies on the ground before her. Joseph is shown sleeping behind Mary to the right. Two angels are present, one with dark wings kneeling and supporting the Christ Child, and another standing behind Mary, looking down with reverence. Two shepherds approach from the right, one holding a lamb as an offering. In the background, a landscape unfolds with rocky formations on the left and a suggestion of the Flight into Egypt in the distance. The figures are rendered with delicate lines and soft colors, characteristic of the Florentine Renaissance style.
